How to get alerted when something hits Craigslist (without refreshing all day)
Use Craigslist saved-search email alerts, then let an authorized assistant filter the matches. See a real desk listing, its source link and a reusable watch brief.
To get alerted when a matching item appears on Craigslist, save a filtered search and enable its email alert in your Craigslist account. You can then ask an assistant with authorized email access to filter those alerts and summarize useful matches. Start with Craigslist's own notifications; you do not need to keep a browser tab refreshing. Alert timing varies, so this is not a promise of an instant message for every new post.

What does an actual matching listing look like?
We opened a public SF Bay Area furniture search for desk, with a maximum price of USD 150, on September 19, 2026. One result was:
| Observed field | Value |
|---|---|
| Listing | Computer desk |
| Asking price | USD 60 |
| Broad location | Mountain View |
| Posting ID | 7966019502 |
| Original posting time shown | September 13, 2026, 18:14 |
| Update time shown | September 19, 2026, 06:37 |
These are observed listing fields, not an endorsement of the item or verification of the seller's claims. The page was visible when checked; it may change or expire. We did not contact the seller.
Open the live search or inspect the saved listing snapshot. The snapshot preserves the source URL and check time without republishing the seller's photographs, description, contact information or precise map location.
The dates matter. This result had an older original posting date and a recent update. A result that looks fresh in the search feed is not necessarily an entirely new listing.
How do you turn on Craigslist's native alerts?
- Choose your region and the right category.
- Search for the item and set the price and location filters you actually need.
- Use save search near the search controls. Sign in when required.
- Open saved searches in your account and enable the alert option for that search.
Craigslist documents saving a search from the results page and managing saved searches from the account. To change the search criteria later, create a replacement search; the help page says existing saved searches cannot be edited. Saved-search instructions.
A welcome email confirms signup. Later emails contain matching results, with up to 20 results per email. Frequency depends on the previous alert's result count, and matching renewed, reposted or edited posts can appear too. Craigslist's alert documentation.
For this article, we inspected the search and listing only. We did not activate a saved search or receive an alert.
What should the assistant add?
The useful job is filtering the incoming evidence. Our broad search also surfaced desk chairs and accessories. An assistant can help separate “contains the word desk” from “is a desk I might buy.”
Give it a brief like this:
Review the Craigslist alert emails I provide or authorize you to read. Look for actual desks in the SF Bay Area at $150 or less. Exclude chair-only and accessory-only listings. Return the title, price, broad location, posting ID, source link and time checked. Keep track of listings already shown to me. Flag a price change separately. Do not contact sellers, reserve anything or buy. Stop after seven days unless I renew the task.
The downloadable watch brief captures those rules. It is a proposed configuration, not an activated monitor.
Using our observed listing, a useful notification could say:
Computer desk — $60 — Mountain View. Matches your desk search and $150 limit. The listing was originally posted September 13 and updated September 19. Open the source to check current availability. Posting ID: 7966019502.
That is an illustrative message built from the snapshot, not a notification we received or sent.
How do you keep the alerts useful?
Use the posting ID to recognize repeated appearances of the same listing. Store the last-seen price separately so a meaningful change can be surfaced without treating every repeat as a new item. A repost may have a different ID, so similar titles and photos can still require review.
Choose a search narrow enough to be useful but broad enough to tolerate imperfect seller wording. Start with the category, item name, price ceiling and feasible pickup area. Add restrictions after seeing what is actually arriving.
If no emails appear, first verify the saved search and its alert setting, check mail filters and confirm the search has results. An empty inbox alone does not establish that no matching listings exist.
Where does Instinct × Vaaya fit?
With Instinct on WhatsApp or iMessage, the natural request is “Show me the desks worth opening, with the listing link.” Where your setup supports authorized email reading and notifications, that conversation can receive a filtered summary. Vaaya can provide additional external tools the assistant needs; it does not, by itself, enable personal-mailbox access or a native Craigslist subscription.
Keep the source link in every result. A summary should help you decide which listing to inspect, while availability and the next action remain grounded in the current page. For more on examining email evidence without overclaiming completeness, see finding subscriptions in your inbox.
Questions
How do I get alerts for new Craigslist listings?
Run a search with your location, category, keywords and price filters. Save it, sign in to your Craigslist account and enable the alert option for that saved search. Craigslist emails matching results.
Are Craigslist alerts instant?
No fixed instant-delivery guarantee is documented. Craigslist says alert frequency depends on the number of results in the previous alert. A listing can change or disappear before you open the email.
Can an AI assistant send Craigslist matches to WhatsApp or iMessage?
It can summarize authorized alert emails into a supported messaging conversation if the assistant has both email-reading and messaging capabilities enabled. A Vaaya connection alone does not establish those permissions or a built-in Craigslist integration.
Why am I seeing an older Craigslist post in a new alert?
Craigslist alerts can include renewed, reposted or edited listings that now match the saved search. Check the original posting date, update time and posting ID before treating a result as new.
Does this article activate a watch or contact a seller?
No. The article records one real public listing and supplies an example watch brief. It did not sign up for alerts, receive a notification, contact the seller or purchase the item.
